studio flowers: Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ and hops vine roots
I cut some Sedum ‘Herbstfreude’ (usually known in the US as ‘Autumn Joy’) for my studio flowers this week. This old standby is so easy to grow, and so pretty in late summer and early fall, with its celadon green buds opening to pale coral pink flowers that slowly darken to deep maroon. (Left, in a little pitcher my grandmother made.)
Then I discovered that the hops vine I’d had in a vase for weeks now — the same one I’d used in a photo shoot for my Hops Earrings — had grown roots! This is common golden hops Humulus lupulus ‘Aureus’ which is more ornamental — sorry, home brewers! — but I’m thrilled to have another piece of this gorgeous chartreuse green vine to plant. (Right, in the Ensidig vase from Ikea by Halskov & Dalsgaard Design, inspired by milk bottles from the 1960s.)
Here’s to new green shoots, wherever you might find them!
